Abstract

Halal certification is very important in ensuring and maintaining halal products from production to consumption. However, in the process, it has several obstacles including knowledge that is not well understood and applied, especially for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSMEs), due to lack of attention from various parties. Therefore, this research was conducted to identify halal knowledge of the products and raw materials used and provide recommendations or suggestions for implementing the halal concept to obtain halal certification for MSMEs. This research was conducted in the city of Bandung, specifically in the Sukasari sub-district. The method used in this study is a qualitative methodology with literature study, interviews as a data collection method, and case studies as an analytical technique, and is linked to the rules and policies that apply in Indonesia. The results of a study of 53 MSMEs (10% of the population) in the Sukasari area show that the majority of the raw materials used by MSMEs use raw materials that have halal certification, but not all of them are halal standards. Even though all traders know the importance of halal product certification, only a small number try to maintain the halalness of their products. Therefore, synergy is needed between business actors, the Government or related Institutions, and consumers to increase awareness of the importance of halal products.
